Gombak River

The Gombak River is a waterway flowing through Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. It is a tributary of the Klang River; the point where these two rivers meet is the location that gave the city of Kuala Lumpur its name. Travelers visit the riverbanks to see the geographical origin of the city and to walk through the historic center.

Getting There

The river flows through the heart of the city. From the central business district, it is accessible via a short taxi ride or by using the LRT (Light Rail Transit) to stations near Masjid Jamek. Depending on your starting point in the city center, the journey typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Time Allotment

A walk along the banks in the central area generally requires 30 to 60 minutes. This allows enough time to observe the confluence of the rivers and the surrounding architecture.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The area can become crowded during weekends and public holidays. Visitors should be mindful of the local weather, as heavy rain can occur throughout the year.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its central location, the river can be combined with several nearby sites within walking distance:

  • Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque: 0.1km
  • Independence Square: 0.2km
  • Central Market: 0.2km
  • Dayabumi Complex: 0.4km
