Bagh Bhairab Temple
Overview
Bagh Bhairab Temple is a 16th-century Hindu shrine in Kirtipur dedicated to Bagh Bhairab, a tiger-formed manifestation of Shiva. The multi-tiered structure serves as an active place of worship for the local community. Visitors come to inspect its traditional Newari woodcarvings, courtyard sculptures, and the historic swords displayed on the upper facade, which were used during the Battle of Kirtipur.
Getting There
The site sits on a ridge in Kirtipur, southwest of Lalitpur and Kathmandu. Travelling from the city centre by taxi or local bus takes approximately 25 to 45 minutes, depending on road traffic.

Allow 45 to 60 minutes to view the main temple, examine the architectural details, and walk around the surrounding brick courtyard.
When to Go
Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to visit for cooler temperatures and active prayer rituals.
