Amathos Ancient Site

Amathos is an archaeological site located on the coast of Limassol. It contains the ruins of an ancient city, including temple foundations and residential structures. Visitors go here to walk through the remains of the settlement while viewing the Mediterranean Sea. The site is historically associates with myths regarding Aphrodite.

Getting There

The site is located on the outskirts of Limassol. From the city centre, you can reach it via taxi or local bus. The journey typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the ruins and explore the different levels of the ancient city.

When to Visit

The site is outdoors and exposed to the sun, so visiting during the early morning or late afternoon is advisable to avoid peak heat. Spring and autumn are the most temperate seasons for exploration. It generally does not get as crowded as the main city beaches, though it is more frequented during the summer months.
