KV26: An 18th Dynasty Tomb

KV26 is an ancient Egyptian tomb dating back to the 18th Dynasty, located within the Valley of the Kings in Luxor. It is situated in a side wadi that leads toward the tomb of Thutmose III. Travelers visit this site to see a structure that remained largely unexcavated until 2009, offering a different perspective on the archaeological layout of the valley compared to the more famous royal tombs.

Getting There

To reach the site from Luxor city centre, you must cross to the West Bank of the Nile via ferry or bridge. From there, you can hire a taxi or driver to take you into the Valley of the Kings. The drive typically takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and the specific transport used.

Visit Duration

Because this is a smaller, less complex site than the major royal tombs, allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to explore the area and understand its position within the wadi.

Timing Your Visit

The best time to visit is in the early morning to avoid the peak midday heat of the desert. The winter months are generally more comfortable for walking. While the main Valley of the Kings attracts large crowds, this specific area is typically less congested than the primary tourist paths.
