Temple of Debod

Overview

The Temple of Debod is an ancient Nubian monument relocated from near Aswan in Egypt and reconstructed in Madrid's Parque de la Montaña. As one of the few authentic ancient Egyptian structures standing outside Egypt, it features preserved stone portals and relief carvings set beside reflecting pools.

Getting There

From central Madrid, walk west from Sol or Gran Vía in about 15 to 20 minutes. Alternatively, take the metro to Plaza de España or Ventura Rodríguez station, which leaves a 5- to 10-minute walk into the park.

Time to Allow

Plan for 30 to 45 minutes to explore the exterior grounds and viewpoint overlooking western Madrid. Allow additional time if queuing to enter the interior rooms.

When to Go

The grounds are busiest around sunset, when crowds gather on the esplanade. To avoid waiting lines and crowds, arrive in the morning. Summer afternoons can be intensely hot with limited shade.

Combine your visit with nearby sights within walking distance:

  • Torre de Madrid (0.5 km): A prominent mid-century skyscraper facing the plaza.
  • Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences (0.5 km): Located just south of the park.
