Overview

Built in the 1720s, Kampung Hulu Mosque is the oldest mosque in the Malacca area. It provides a clear example of regional religious architecture, featuring a distinctive stone minaret that blends Javanese and Malay design elements.

Getting There

Located in downtown Malacca, the site is easily reached on foot from the surrounding historic quarter. Walking from central points takes roughly 5 to 10 minutes. Taxis and local ride-hailing services are also readily available.

Time to Allow

Set aside 20 to 30 minutes. This provides sufficient time to view the exterior architecture, minaret, and surrounding grounds.

When to Go

Early mornings and late afternoons are the most comfortable times to visit and avoid peak heat. Because this is an active place of worship, modest dress covering shoulders and knees is required. Friday midday prayer times bring larger local crowds, which can restrict visitor movement.
