Gulhifalhu

Gulhifalhu is an artificial island located within the administrative boundaries of Malé City. Situated between Villingili and Thilafushi, the island is part of a larger urban development project designed to expand the available land area of the capital. Travelers visit this location to observe the Maldives' land reclamation efforts and the evolving infrastructure of the city's outskirts.

Getting There

Access to the island is primarily via boat from the Malé city center. The journey typically takes between 15 to 30 minutes depending on the vessel used and sea conditions. Plans are in place to link the island to nearby areas via bridges, which will alter future transit methods.

Duration of Visit

A visit to the island generally requires 2 to 4 hours. This allows sufficient time to walk through the developed areas and observe the surrounding coastal construction and geography.

When to Visit

The island is best visited during the dry season to avoid heavy rain. Because it is an open area with limited natural shade, visiting during the early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. It does not typically experience the same tourist crowds as the main resort islands.

Nearby Attractions

Visitors can combine a trip here with visits to other nearby locations in the archipelago:

  • Thilafushi (3.6km)
  • Feydhoofinolhu (4.3km)
