Palais du Pharo

The Palais du Pharo is a palace located west of the Old Port in Marseille, built by Napoleon III for Empress Eugénie. Visitors go here to walk through the gardens and view the Mediterranean coastline from the palace grounds.

Getting There

The palace is located on the western edge of the city centre. From the Old Port (Vieux Port), it is a walk of approximately 15 to 20 minutes heading west toward the coast.

Duration of Visit

Allow roughly 1 to 2 hours to walk through the gardens and explore the perimeter of the estate.

When to Visit

The gardens are best visited during the spring and autumn to avoid the peak summer heat of southern France. Late afternoon is a common time for visitors to arrive to see the sea views. Like many coastal sites in Marseille, it can become crowded during the summer holiday season.
