Beaver Lake

Overview

Beaver Lake is an artificial basin located on Mount Royal, created in 1938 on the site of a former wetland. It serves as a calm green space within the city, where visitors can walk along paved pathways, rest on the lawns, or enjoy outdoor recreation surrounded by trees.

Getting There

From downtown Montreal, the area is accessible by city bus or by foot up the mountain trails. Taking public transit usually requires 20 to 30 minutes from the city centre, while walking uphill takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

Recommended Time

Allow between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours to stroll around the water, sit by the shore, and explore the immediate park area.

When to Visit

The site can be visited year-round. Summer brings pleasant weather for picnics and walking, while winter offers cold-weather activities. Weekends and warm afternoons often get crowded with local residents and tourists; visit during weekday mornings for a quieter experience.
