Overview

The Tarxien Temples are a megalithic complex built around 3250 BC, among the oldest stone structures in the Mediterranean. The site contains four conjoined prehistoric structures displaying stone carvings, animal reliefs, spiral motifs, and Neolithic masonry.

Getting There

Located in south-eastern Malta, the site is accessible from the central bus terminus in Valletta in about 20 to 30 minutes by direct public bus. A taxi or car ride from Malta International Airport (MLA) takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes.

Time to Allow

Plan for 45 to 60 minutes to follow the elevated walkway, view the stone reliefs, and read the informative display panels.

When to Go

Visit in the morning or late afternoon during summer to avoid high temperatures under the canopy. Tour groups frequently arrive in the middle of the day, making early morning the best time to avoid crowds.
