Jogeshwari Caves

Overview

Jogeshwari Caves is a 6th-century rock-cut Hindu cave temple complex in the suburbs of Mumbai. It is considered one of India's oldest large-scale cave temples, featuring ancient pillar halls and rock-carved sculptures.

Getting There

From central or South Mumbai, take a Western Line suburban train to Jogeshwari Station or travel by taxi. Driving takes roughly 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic, while suburban trains take about 45 to 60 minutes.

Time to Allow

Allow 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to explore the excavated halls and stone carvings.

When to Visit

The dry winter period from November to February is the most comfortable time for a visit. To avoid midday heat during warmer months, go in the early morning or late afternoon. The monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain that makes stone walkways slick. Weekends typically see more local visitors.
