When to Go and When to Avoid

The best window for walking the Altstadt and visiting museums is from May to June and in September, when temperatures are pleasant and daylight is ample.

Avoid late September to early October unless attending Oktoberfest. Lodging fills citywide, and transit routes like lines U4 and U5 become congested. Major trade fairs at Messe München also cause lodging shortages.

Budget travelers should target January and February for the lowest lodging rates and thinnest crowds.

Packing and Transport Tips

Pack rain protection year-round, as alpine showers are common even in summer. Between November and March, bring a warm coat and water-resistant boots. S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 run from Munich Airport (MUC) to central hubs like Hauptbahnhof and Marienplatz.
