About the Giraffe Centre

The Giraffe Centre is a wildlife sanctuary located in the Langata area of Nairobi. It was established specifically to protect and conserve the Rothschild's giraffe, a subspecies native to the grasslands of East Africa. Visitors go here to observe these animals and feed them from a raised platform that brings guests to eye level with the giraffes.

Getting There

The sanctuary is situated approximately 20 km from central Nairobi. Most travelers use taxis or ride-sharing apps to reach the site. Depending on the city's traffic conditions, the journey typically takes between 30 to 60 minutes from the city centre.

Visit Duration

A visit generally requires 1.5 to 3 hours. This allows enough time to walk through the facility, participate in the feeding experience, and learn about the conservation efforts for the Rothschild's giraffe.

When to Visit

The site can get crowded, particularly during weekends and school holidays. To avoid the largest crowds, arriving early in the morning is recommended. The weather in Nairobi is generally temperate year-round, though the rainy seasons can affect outdoor movement.

Nearby Attractions

  • Karen Blixen Museum: 4.2 km
  • Bomas of Kenya: 5.1 km
  • Ngong Forest: 6.5 km
