Ngerulmud is not a traditional city but a planned administrative center. Unlike the commercial hub of Koror, Ngerulmud consists primarily of government buildings, the capitol, and open green spaces. There are no distinct commercial districts or neighborhoods; the layout is centered around the Palau National Capitol building.

Arrival and Transportation

Visitors arrive via Palau International Airport (ROR). Because Ngerulmud is located on the island of Babeldaob, you must cross from the main tourist hub of Koror via the bridge.

• Getting there: Rental cars are the only practical way to reach Ngerulmud. Public transport is virtually non-existent in this area.
• Getting around: Once inside the capital area, the site is small enough to explore on foot, but a vehicle is required to reach the surrounding lakes and rivers.

Common First-Timer Mistakes

The most common error is expecting a city infrastructure. There are no hotels, restaurants, or shopping malls within Ngerulmud itself. Visitors often arrive without food or water, expecting a town center.

Instead: Prepare all supplies in Koror before departing for Babeldaob. Ensure your rental vehicle has sufficient fuel, as service stations are sparse on the island.

Since Ngerulmud is a quiet destination, a single day is usually sufficient. Focus your visit in this order:
