    The Ryukyu Islands (Nansei Islands) are a chain of islands in southwestern Japan stretching from Kyushu toward Taiwan, spanning Kagoshima and Okinawa prefectures. The Okinawa portion is scattered with islands large and small centered on Okinawa Island; the larger ones tend to be volcanic and the smaller ones coral-based, giving each island a distinct coastline and sea color.

    Urasoe Yodore is one of the royal mausoleums of the Ryukyu Kingdom, ranked alongside Tamaudun at Shuri Castle and Izena Tamaudun on Izena Island as one of the three great Ryukyu royal tombs. It was built using a natural cave on the northeastern cliff of the Urasoe Castle ruins, and houses the remains of three kings who ruled the Ryukyu Islands, together with those of another king from an era several centuries apart.

    Despite its name, Manko is not a lake but a tidal wetland straddling the border of Naha and Tomigusuku. Located within Manko Park, it covers a modest area of about 0.11 square kilometers. Mangrove forests and mudflats attract many visitors who come to observe waterbirds, crabs, and other tidal life, making it a notable wetland ecosystem within easy reach of central Okinawa.

    The Naha City Museum of History opened in 2006 in Naha, Okinawa, and holds nationally designated cultural properties related to the Sho family, the royal house of the Ryukyu Kingdom.     Tamaudun is the royal mausoleum of the Second Sho Dynasty of the Ryukyu Kingdom, built near Shuri Castle in 1501 by the third king, Sho Shin, to inter his father, Sho En. It is distinguished by its unique architecture of stacked coral limestone and, together with Shuri Castle, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu."

    Shureimon

    Shureimon is a gate in the Shuri district of Naha, Okinawa, that once served as the main gate to Shuri Castle, former royal seat of the Ryukyu Kingdom. It was originally the second gate on the approach to the castle, but with the first gate, Shuzanmon, no longer standing, it now functions as the entrance to the Shuri Castle historic site.

    Sonohyan-utaki is a sacred utaki, a traditional place of worship dating back to the Ryukyu Kingdom, taking the form of a small forest thick with trees and plants. It stands right beside Shureimon Gate within the grounds of Shuri Castle; since the object of worship lies deep within the forest, general visitors cannot enter and instead view the stone gate at the entrance.

    Shikina-en

    Shikina-en is a royal garden villa of the Ryukyu royal family, situated on a hill south of Shuri Castle. Used to entertain envoys from China and as a retreat for royalty, it features a strolling garden centered on a pond with paths winding around it. Seeing the Ryukyu Kingdom's garden design and architecture together offers a glimpse of royal life that Shuri Castle alone doesn't show.
