Vigeland Installation

Located within Frogner Park, this is the world's largest sculpture park created by a single artist, Gustav Vigeland. The installation consists of over 200 sculptures in bronze, granite, and wrought iron, focusing on the human condition and the cycle of life. Visitors go here to view the Monolith and the Bridge, and to walk through the curated gardens and lawns.

Getting There

The installation is accessible from Oslo city centre via the tram system (Lines 12 and 19). The journey typically takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on the starting point and traffic.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the main axis of the park and view the primary sculpture groups. Those interested in a slower pace or exploring the wider gardens may require more time.

When to Visit

The park is open year-round. Summer offers the most greenery and active rose gardens, while winter provides a different perspective of the stone sculptures in the snow. It can get crowded during peak summer weekends and public holidays.

Nearby Attractions

The installation can be combined with other local sites based on proximity:

  • Frogner Park (0.1km): The larger park area surrounding the sculptures.
  • Vigeland Museum (0.5km): A gallery dedicated to the artist's work.
  • Blindern (1.9km): The university campus area.
  • Oscarshall (2km): The royal summer palace.
