Antirrio Fortress
Antirrio Fortress
The Antirrio Fortress is a historical fortification situated at the entrance to the Gulf of Corinth. Visitors go here to explore the old military architecture and view the strait and the Rio–Antirrio Bridge from the coast.
Getting There
The fortress is located across the bridge from Patras. From the city centre, you can reach it via taxi or local transport. The journey typically takes around 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
Visit Duration
Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk through the grounds and observe the surrounding views of the gulf.
When to Visit
The site is open to the air, so visiting during the spring or autumn avoids the peak summer heat. Late afternoon is a practical time to visit to see the bridge lighting. The area does not typically experience extreme crowding, though it is more active during the summer holiday season.
Nearby Attractions
You can combine a visit to the fortress with other local sites. Depending on your transport, consider these nearby locations:
- Rio Castle: 2.3km (located across the strait)
- Selemnos: 2.9km
- Kastellokampos: 4.2km
- Charadros: 4.2km
