Danube-Drava National Park

This national park protects the river basins of the Danube and Drava in southwestern Hungary. It is primarily a destination for nature observers and hikers, as its wetlands provide a habitat for rare wildlife, including white-tailed eagles and black storks. Visitors use the established nature trails to explore the riverine ecosystems.

Getting There

The park is located in the southwestern region of the country. Access from the city center of Pécs requires a drive or transit to the river basin areas. Due to the park's vast size and distance from the urban core of Pécs, travel time varies depending on which specific sector of the park is being visited.

Duration of Visit

Depending on the number of trails chosen, visitors should allow several hours to a full day to explore the wetlands and observation points.

When to Visit

The best time to visit is during the spring and autumn for birdwatching and milder hiking temperatures. Early morning is generally preferred for wildlife spotting. The park does not typically experience the same level of crowding as urban city centers, though popular trailheads may be busier on weekends.
