Pécs Zoo
Pécs Zoo
Located on the slopes of the Mecsek Hills, this facility is one of the smaller zoos in Hungary. Visitors go here to see a variety of animal species while overlooking the downtown area of Pécs. The site is also of interest to those looking for remnants of the small railway that previously linked the area to a former amusement park.
Getting There
The zoo is located uphill from the city centre. Visitors can reach it via local public transport or by taxi. Depending on the mode of transport and traffic, the journey typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes from the central districts.
Duration of Visit
Due to its compact size compared to larger zoological gardens, most visitors can explore the entire grounds and view the exhibits in approximately 2 to 3 hours.
When to Visit
The best time to visit is during the spring and summer months when the weather is mild and animals are more active. Visiting during weekday mornings is recommended to avoid the larger crowds that typically arrive on weekends and public holidays.
Nearby Attractions
Because of its location on the Mecsek Hills, the zoo can be combined with several other nearby points of interest, all within approximately 0.8km:
- Pécs TV Tower: A vantage point for city views.
- Misina: A local landmark and viewpoint.
- Danube-Drava National Park: For those interested in natural landscapes.
- Saint Emeric Paulian Church: A site of religious and architectural interest.
