Urn Tomb

The Urn Tomb is a large rock-cut burial monument located in the Royal Tombs area of Petra. It is identified by the large, urn-shaped decorative element carved into the top of its facade. Visitors go here to observe the scale of Nabataean rock-cut architecture and the precision of the cliffside carving.

Getting There

The tomb is located within the main archaeological park of Petra. From the visitor center entrance, you must walk through the Siq and pass the Treasury and the Street of Facades. The walk to the Royal Tombs area typically takes between 60 to 90 minutes depending on your pace and the route taken.

Time Requirement

Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to view the facade and explore the immediate surrounding area.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the peak heat of the day. This area of the park can become crowded with tour groups during the midday hours. The most stable weather for visiting the site occurs during the spring and autumn months.
