Khari Khari Lakes
Khari Khari Lakes
The Khari Khari Lakes are two artificial reservoirs situated in the Kari Kari mountain range. Visitors go here for the tranquil scenery and the walking paths that connect the two bodies of water, providing a natural contrast to the urban environment of Potosí.
Getting There
The lakes are located approximately 8 kilometers east of downtown Potosí. Travelers typically reach the site via taxi or hired vehicle from the city center. The drive generally takes between 20 and 30 minutes depending on traffic and road conditions.
Duration of Visit
Allow 2 to 4 hours for a visit. This provides enough time to walk between the two lakes and explore the surrounding mountain landscape at a steady pace.
When to Visit
Due to the high altitude of the Potosí region, it is advisable to visit during the day when temperatures are higher. The weather in the Andes can change rapidly, so checking local forecasts for rain or wind is recommended before departing.
Combining with Other Attractions
Because of their proximity to the city, these lakes can be paired with other historical sites in Potosí. Nearby locations include:
- Cerro Rico: 2.4 km
- Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace: 3.1 km
- Plaza 10 de Noviembre: 3.1 km
- National Mint of Bolivia: 3.2 km
