Talo Monastery

Talo Monastery is a three-story Buddhist temple located on a hill 2,800 meters above sea level near Punakha. Visitors go here to see one of Bhutan's sacred religious sites and to walk the mountain trail leading to the structure, which features scenery and markers of local devotion.

Getting There

The monastery is located outside the main Punakha town center. Access typically requires a vehicle to reach the base of the hill, followed by a hike up the mountain trail. Depending on the starting point and walking pace, allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes for the journey from the central area.

Duration of Visit

Allow 2 to 3 hours for a visit. This includes the time required to hike up the trail, explore the three-story monastery, and descend back to the vehicle.

When to Visit

Morning visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat during the warmer months. The site is generally less crowded than the primary landmarks in the valley, though it is best to visit during the spring or autumn for stable weather conditions.
