General Headquarters
General Headquarters
The General Headquarters (GHQ) is the central command center for the Pakistan Army, located in the Chaklala area of Rawalpindi. It serves as the administrative and strategic hub for the country's military leadership. Travelers typically visit this area to observe the scale of the military infrastructure or as a point of reference when visiting nearby military heritage sites.
Getting There
The headquarters is located outside the main city center of Rawalpindi. The most common way to reach the site is by taxi or ride-sharing services. Depending on traffic conditions, the journey from the city center typically takes 20 to 40 minutes.
Time Allocation
Because this is an active military installation with restricted access to most internal areas, visitors generally spend a short amount of time viewing the perimeter or coordinating visits to adjacent sites. Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes if you are passing through or visiting the immediate vicinity.
When to Visit
It is advisable to visit during daylight hours. Like much of Rawalpindi, the area can experience heavy traffic congestion during morning and evening rush hours, which may delay travel. The weather is most temperate during the winter months, avoiding the extreme heat of the summer season.

The location is well-positioned for combining with other local landmarks. You can easily visit the following sites nearby:
- Pakistan Army Museum (0.5km)
- St. Joseph's Cathedral, Rawalpindi (0.7km)
- Krishna Temple, Rawalpindi (1.8km)
