Engey Island

Engey is an island located in Kollafjörður bay, off the coast of Reykjavík. It is the second largest island in the bay and is currently owned by the City of Reykjavík. Visitors go to the island to experience a natural environment and a quiet landscape away from the urban center.

Getting There

Access to the island is by boat from the Reykjavík shoreline. The trip from the city center is short, typically taking a few minutes to reach the shores of the island depending on the departure point.

Duration of Visit

A visit of two to three hours is generally sufficient to walk around the island and observe the local nature and scenery.

When to Visit

The island is most accessible during the summer months when weather conditions in the bay are more stable and boat transport is more frequent. It does not typically experience the same level of crowding as the main city attractions.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its location in the bay, this site can be combined with other coastal or city landmarks. Nearby points of interest include:

  • Örfirisey (1.9km)
  • Akurey (2.3km)
  • Harpa (2.5km)
  • Reykjavik Maritime Museum (2.6km)
