Imagine Peace Tower
Imagine Peace Tower
The Imagine Peace Tower is a monument located on Viðey island, off the coast of Reykjavík. Erected in 2007, it consists of a pillar of light designed as a symbol for world peace. Travelers visit the site to see the installation and explore the surrounding island landscape.
Getting There
To reach the tower, visitors must take a ferry from the Reykjavík shoreline to Viðey island. The boat trip takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes from the city center area. Once on the island, a walk is required to reach the monument.
Time Allocation
Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours for the visit. This includes the ferry transit and time to walk across the island to the tower and back to the landing point.
When to Visit
The tower is most visible during the darker months of the year when the light beam is prominent against the night sky. During the summer, the island is accessible for longer hours, though the light is less visible. The site generally does not experience the same level of crowding as downtown Reykjavík attractions.
Nearby Attractions
Since the tower is located on Viðey, you can explore the rest of the island (0.4km) during your visit. Other nearby sites accessible from the mainland include:
- Reykjavík Botanic Garden: 2.5km
- Engey: 2.8km
- Reykjavík Park and Zoo: 2.8km
