Viðey
What It Is
Viðey is an island off the coast of Reykjavík. Travellers visit to walk quiet coastal trails, spot seabirds, and see the Imagine Peace Tower. The island offers open landscape and clear views across the bay toward the city.
Getting There
Access is via a short ferry ride from the Reykjavík coastline. From the city centre, reach the departure pier by bus, bike, or taxi in 10 to 15 minutes. The boat crossing takes roughly 10 to 20 minutes.
Time to Allow
Set aside 2 to 3 hours to walk the main paths and visit the monument. If you plan to complete the full perimeter walk, budget half a day.
When to Go
Summer offers the mildest walking weather and regular boat crossings. In autumn and winter, visits center on evenings when the peace tower is lit. The island rarely gets crowded, though coastal winds are frequent year-round.
