Cahal Pech

Cahal Pech is a Maya archaeological site situated on a hill overlooking San Ignacio, Belize. Dating back to 1200 BC, it is one of the oldest Maya settlements in the western region of the country. Visitors go here to explore the remaining residential and ceremonial structures and to see the layout of an early Maya community.

Getting There

The site is located just outside the center of San Ignacio. It is accessible via a short taxi ride or a walk from the town center, typically taking about 10 to 15 minutes depending on the mode of transport.

Visit Duration

Most visitors spend between 1.5 to 3 hours exploring the site, depending on whether they take a guided tour of the structures and the surrounding grounds.

When to Visit

Morning visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat. The dry season is generally the most accessible time for visiting outdoor ruins. The site is typically less crowded than larger Maya sites in Belize, though it can see more activity during peak tourism months.
