Overview

Pacbitun is a Maya archaeological site in Belize's Cayo District, inhabited from around 900 BCE to 900 CE. It contains remnants of stone architecture, plazas, and ancient mounds. Visitors come to study genuine Maya settlement history and observe archaeological remains in a quiet setting.

Getting There

The site lies southeast of San Ignacio town centre. Driving by car or hiring a taxi typically takes 25 to 40 minutes, depending on local road conditions.

Time to Allow

Plan for 1.5 to 2 hours on site to walk between the plazas, inspect the excavated structures, and explore the grounds.

When to Go

Mornings are best to avoid midday tropical heat. The dry season from December to May offers the most reliable travel conditions on access roads. The site does not draw massive tour groups and rarely gets crowded.
