Dry Season: November to April

Best for: Volcano trekking, road travel, and cultural festivities.

The dry months bring clear skies and low rain risk. November and December provide the most manageable weather before extreme heat takes over from February to April. For ascending San Miguel Volcano (Chaparrastique), aim for December or January, and start at dawn to finish before midday.

• November Carnival: The Fiestas Patronales culminate on the last Saturday of November with the Carnaval de San Miguel. Central avenues close, accommodations book up weeks in advance, and regional buses from San Salvador face heavy congestion.
