Clock Tower of Sarajevo

Overview

Standing 30 meters tall next to the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, the Clock Tower of Sarajevo is the tallest clock tower in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Visible throughout the old town, this stone structure is known for its lunar clock mechanism, which tracks time relative to daily sunset.

Getting There

Situated in the historic center, the tower is reachable on foot in about 5 to 10 minutes from central Sarajevo. Local trams also stop near the pedestrian zone, leaving a 2-minute walk.

Time to Spend

Plan for 10 to 15 minutes. Because viewing is done from the exterior and neighboring streets, a short stop is sufficient.

When to Visit

Visit during daylight for the best view of the masonry. The surrounding alleys get crowded from midday through late afternoon, especially in summer. Mornings are less congested.

Nearby Attractions

You can easily pair a visit with nearby historical sites:

  • Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque (0km): Directly adjacent to the tower.
  • Gazi Husrev-beg bezistan (0.1km): A covered market hall nearby.
  • Old Synagogue in Sarajevo (0.1km): Located just down the lane.
  • Ferhadija Mosque (0.1km): Situated along the pedestrian route.
