What It Is

Gazi Husrev-beg bezistan is an enclosed Ottoman market hall in Sarajevo's Baščaršija district, built in 1555. Constructed with stone masonry and a long vaulted corridor, it still operates as an active bazaar. Travellers visit to browse stalls selling handicrafts, jewellery, and souvenirs while seeing historic Ottoman commercial architecture in daily use.

Getting There

Located in central Baščaršija, the building is a 5-minute walk from the main Ferhadija pedestrian zone. Local tram stops on the surrounding streets are within a 2-minute walk.

Visiting Duration

Allow 20 to 30 minutes to walk through the central passageway and browse the displays. Add extra time if you plan to shop.

When to Go

The narrow aisle gets crowded during midday and summer afternoons. Going in the morning allows for easier movement. Because the interior is fully covered, it is a practical stop during rain or summer heat.
