Eternal Flame Memorial

The Eternal Flame is a memorial located in downtown Sarajevo dedicated to the soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during World War II. Erected in 1946 to commemorate the first anniversary of the city's liberation from Nazi occupation, the site serves as a place of remembrance and reflection.

The memorial is situated in the heart of the city center. Because it is centrally located, it is accessible by foot from most major downtown hotels and landmarks. Depending on your starting point within the center, the walk typically takes between 5 and 15 minutes.

As a compact outdoor monument, visitors generally spend 15 to 30 minutes at the site to view the flame and read the commemorative details.

The memorial is accessible throughout the year. Visiting in the evening allows you to see the flame more clearly against the dark. Like many central landmarks in Sarajevo, the surrounding pedestrian areas can become crowded during peak tourist seasons and weekend afternoons.
