Čobanija Mosque

The Čobanija Mosque is a historic Islamic place of worship in Sarajevo dating back to before 1565. Visitors go here to see its traditional architecture, specifically the stone minaret which features an inscribed Turkish poem. The site includes an adjacent cemetery where the founder of the mosque is believed to be buried.

The mosque is located within the city of Sarajevo. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short taxi ride or local public transport. The journey typically takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Visit Duration

Allow roughly 30 to 60 minutes to view the exterior architecture, read the inscriptions on the minaret, and walk through the surrounding cemetery area.

When to Visit

The site is accessible throughout the year. To avoid interference with daily prayers, visitors should plan their arrival outside of the five daily prayer times. It generally does not experience the same level of crowding as the main tourist hubs in the Old Town.
