Overview

Muslihudin Čekrekčija Mosque is an Ottoman religious site constructed in 1526, making it the second-oldest domed mosque in Sarajevo. Situated at the foot of Kovači Hill in the Baščaršija quarter, the structure is notable for its preserved central dome and historical architecture integrated directly into the surrounding bazaar.

Getting There

Located in the pedestrian core of the old town, the site is a 10 to 15-minute walk from central Sarajevo. Trams running through the city center stop at the edge of Baščaršija, requiring only a two-minute walk to reach the entrance.

Time to Spend

Allow 15 to 30 minutes. The building and its grounds are compact, making it a short stop during a broader walking tour of the old quarter.

When to Visit

Mornings and late afternoons are the best times to visit to avoid heavy pedestrian traffic in the bazaar. Because this is an active place of worship, avoid entering during daily prayer times. Visitors should wear modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees.
