Cheonggyecheon is a modern urban stream that runs through the center of Seoul. It begins in a valley near Jongno and flows through the downtown area before joining the Jungnang Stream. Travelers visit this waterway to walk along the stream banks, which are set below the street level, providing a pedestrian path separated from city traffic.
Getting There
The stream is located in the heart of Seoul's city center. Most visitors access it via the subway system, arriving at stations such as Gwanghwamun or Jonggak. Depending on your starting point within the central district, it takes only a few minutes to reach the various entry points along the surface roads.
Duration of Visit
Depending on how far you intend to walk along the waterway, allow between one and three hours. The path is linear, allowing visitors to walk as much or as little as they prefer before returning to the street level.
When to Visit
The area is accessible throughout the year. Evening visits are common due to the lighting along the banks. It becomes crowded during weekends and during city-led festivals. To avoid the largest crowds, visit on weekday mornings.
