Phimeanakas

Phimeanakas is a Hindu temple located within the royal palace enclosure of Angkor Thom in Siem Reap. Built in the late 10th century, the structure is designed as a three-tiered pyramid. Visitors go here to see the architectural style of the pyramid temple and to explore the surrounding area, which contains traces of the ancient royal palace.

Getting There

The temple is located within the Angkor Archaeological Park, several kilometers from the Siem Reap city center. Most travelers reach the site via tuk-tuk or motorbike. The journey typically takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic and the specific starting point in town.

Time Allocation

Because of its compact size and the straightforward climb to the top tier, allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to explore the temple and the immediate palace grounds.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat, as the stone steps can become very hot. The site can get crowded during the peak tourist season from November to February. There is limited shade on the temple structure itself.
