Baphuon

Located within the walls of Angkor Thom, Baphuon is a three-tiered temple mountain constructed in the mid-11th century. Dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, the site is characterized by its massive sandstone structure and distinctive arched architecture. Visitors go here to observe the scale of the temple mountain design and the remaining stone carvings.

Getting There

The temple is located northwest of the Bayon temple in the Angkor Archaeological Park. From Siem Reap city centre, most travellers reach the site via tuk-tuk or rented vehicle. The journey typically takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic and the specific starting point in town.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to explore the tiers of the temple and walk the surrounding grounds.

Timing Your Visit

To avoid the midday heat and the largest tour groups, arrive in the early morning. The dry season from November to February offers the most temperate weather. Like other major sites in Angkor Thom, this area can get crowded during peak tourist hours.
