Angkor Thom

Angkor Thom was the final capital of the Khmer Empire, established in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII. It is a fortified city containing several religious monuments and royal structures. Travelers visit this site to study the architecture and urban planning of the ancient empire through its remaining gates and stone ruins.

Getting There

The site is located a few kilometers from the Siem Reap city center. Most visitors reach the area via tuk-tuk or hired vehicle. The journey typically takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic and the specific starting point within the city.

Time Allocation

Allow approximately 3 to 5 hours are required to walk through the main gates and visit the primary structures within the city walls. The amount of time spent depends on how many of the internal temples are explored.

When to Visit

Early morning is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site gets crowded, particularly near the main gates and the central temple. The dry season is generally preferred for easier navigation of the grounds.
