Pre Rup
Pre Rup is a Hindu temple-mountain built around 961 by King Rajendravarman. Constructed from a combination of brick, laterite, and sandstone, it is designed as a stepped pyramid. Travelers visit this site to observe the Khmer architectural style of the 10th century and to view the surrounding landscape from the upper tiers of the structure.
Getting There
The temple is located outside the main city center of Siem Reap. Most visitors reach the site via remork (tuk-tuk) or private car. The journey typically takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic and the specific starting point within the city.
Visit Duration
Allow approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to explore the temple grounds, climb the stairs to the top level, and walk around the base of the pyramid.
Timing and Crowds
Late afternoon is a common time for visits due to the orientation of the temple and the lighting. The site can become crowded during the peak tourist season, particularly as sunset approaches. To avoid the largest groups, visiting in the early morning is an alternative.
