What It Is

Thommanon is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, located east of Angkor Thom's Victory Gate within the Angkor UNESCO World Heritage Site. It features a single sandstone tower with well-preserved devata carvings and relief work, offering travellers a close look at classical Khmer architecture on a compact scale.

Getting There

Located roughly 10 kilometers north of central Siem Reap, the site is reachable by tuk-tuk, car, or bicycle. The trip from the town centre takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

Time to Allow

Set aside 30 to 45 minutes. The site comprises a central tower, an adjoining hall, and a library, making it quick to explore thoroughly.

When to Visit

Morning is best for viewing the east-facing reliefs in direct sunlight. The dry season (November to April) offers dry paths, though midday is hot. It rarely sees the heavy crowds of major temples, though brief tour group stops occur in mid-morning.
