Preah Khan

Preah Khan is a temple complex in the Angkor region of Cambodia. It was built as a Buddhist monastery and university, though it incorporates both Buddhist and Hindu architectural elements. Visitors go here to see the extensive corridors, stone carvings, and the way the surrounding jungle has integrated with the ruins.

Getting There

The temple is located northeast of Angkor Thom. From Siem Reap city centre, it is typically reached by tuk-tuk or motorbike. The journey generally takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and the specific starting point.

Time Allocation

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the complex. The site is larger than many surrounding temples, with long galleries and multiple courtyards to navigate.

When to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site can get crowded during the peak tourist season, particularly near the main entrance. Visiting during the cooler, drier months is generally more comfortable for walking.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its location, this site can be combined with other smaller temples in the vicinity:

  • Thommanon (1.8km)
  • Ta Nei (1.8km)
  • Preah Pithu (1.8km)
  • Chau Say Tevoda (2km)
