Sigulda sits on a plateau split by the steep Gauja River valley. Getting around depends on whether you stay in town or descend to the valley sights.

• Walking: Best for the town center and exploring forest trails around the medieval castle and river. Be ready for long, steep wooden staircases.
• Local bus: Connects Sigulda station with Krimulda and Turaida. It wins over walking when heading back uphill from Turaida Castle or Gūtmanis Cave.
• Cable car: Links Sigulda to Krimulda across the river gorge, saving a strenuous hike across the ravine.
• Cycling: Excellent on paved plateau roads and designated paths during warmer seasons, though impractical on valley staircases.

Tickets and Passes

There is no all-inclusive transport pass for Sigulda. Riga transit cards do not work here. Regional train tickets must be bought online or at the station before boarding. Local buses accept mobile app payments or cash from the driver. The cable car requires a separate ticket on site.

From Riga Airport (RIX) to Sigulda

• Direct taxi or rental car: Direct drive via the A2 highway bypassing central Riga. High cost, minimal effort, taking just over an hour.

Practical Transit Advice

Valley staircases and gravel tracks make strollers and wheelchairs unusable on most trails; those with limited mobility should take the local bus directly to Turaida. Regional trains provide luggage and bike racks. Return trains to Riga become sparse late in the evening, so check timetables before descending into the valley.
