2018 North Korea–United States Singapore Summit
What it is
This is the site of the June 12, 2018 meeting between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa island, the first-ever face-to-face meeting between leaders of North Korea and the United States. The two signed a joint statement covering security guarantees, denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and the recovery of soldiers' remains. There is no dedicated museum or memorial here; the interest for visitors is walking past the hotel and grounds where a widely covered diplomatic event took place, rather than any exhibit or marker.
Getting there
From central Singapore, Sentosa is reached by the Sentosa Express monorail from VivoCity, by taxi or ride-hail over the causeway, or on foot/bus via the Sentosa Boardwalk. The trip from the city centre takes roughly 20-30 minutes depending on traffic and your starting point. The Capella Hotel itself is on the quieter southeastern side of the island, a further short taxi or shuttle ride from the main Sentosa entrance.
How much time to allow
There's little to actively "do" here since the hotel is a working luxury property, not a public attraction. Most visitors spend only a few minutes viewing the exterior or grounds before moving on to other parts of Sentosa.
When to go
Any time of day works, since there's no scheduled event or exhibit to time around. The hotel grounds are private, so access for non-guests may be limited, and it's worth keeping expectations modest rather than planning a dedicated visit around this alone.
Combine with
- Sentosa (0.6km) - the wider island, with beaches, trails, and other attractions within easy reach.
- Universal Studios Singapore (0.7km) - a short ride away, useful for combining with a Sentosa day out.
- Brani Island (1.5km) - nearby if extending a visit further along the harbour.
