• Marshrutkas: These shared minibuses are the primary mode of public transport. They are best for moving between different districts or traveling to nearby towns.
• Taxis: Taxis are widely available and are the most efficient choice for direct point-to-point travel, particularly when carrying luggage or traveling after dark.

Tickets and Passes

There are no integrated tourist transport passes in Sokhumi. Marshrutka fares are paid in cash directly to the driver. Taxis typically operate on a negotiated basis or via local apps. This system suits flexible travelers but may be inconvenient for those preferring pre-paid digital ticketing.

From Sochi International Airport (AER) to Sokhumi

Since Sokhumi does not have its own commercial airport, visitors arrive via Sochi. The journey involves crossing the border, which can significantly impact travel time.

• Private Transfer: The fastest and lowest-effort option. It provides door-to-door service but falls in the highest cost band.
• Shared Taxi/Marshrutka: A mid-range cost option. It requires more effort as you may need to change vehicles at the border or wait for the vehicle to fill.
