Australian National Maritime Museum
About the Museum
The Australian National Maritime Museum is located at Darling Harbour in Sydney. It documents Australia's relationship with the sea, featuring exhibits on Indigenous seafaring, naval history, immigration, and maritime trade. Visitors go to explore historical artifacts in the galleries and walk through historic vessels moored along the waterfront.
Getting There
From the Sydney city centre, walking takes about 15 to 20 minutes across Pyrmont Bridge. Alternatively, take the L1 Light Rail from Central or Town Hall directly to the Pyrmont Bay stop, which sits next to the entrance and takes roughly 10 minutes.
Recommended Duration
Plan for 2 to 3 hours to explore both the indoor exhibitions and the outdoor fleet.
When to Visit
Weekday mornings offer the quietest experience. The venue gets crowded on weekends and during school holiday periods, which often causes queues when boarding the docked ships.
