HMAS Vampire
HMAS Vampire
HMAS Vampire is a decommissioned Australian Navy destroyer permanently docked in Sydney. Built in the 1950s at the Cockatoo Island dockyard, the ship serves as a museum piece. Visitors can walk across the deck and explore the interior compartments to see the living and working conditions of naval personnel from that era.
Getting There
The ship is located at Darling Harbour, which is within walking distance from the Sydney city centre. Depending on your starting point in the CBD, the walk typically takes between 15 and 20 minutes.
Visit Duration
Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to tour the ship's interior and deck areas.
When to Visit
Visiting during weekday mornings generally avoids the largest crowds. Because the ship is outdoors and contains narrow metal corridors, it is advisable to visit during mild seasons to avoid extreme heat or rain.
