Macquarie Lighthouse

Located on Vaucluse Point near the entrance to Sydney Harbour, this site is Australia's first and longest-operating lighthouse. Visitors go here to view the coastal landscape and the entrance to the harbour while visiting a historical maritime landmark.

Getting There

The lighthouse is located east of the Sydney city centre. You can reach it via public bus or by car. Depending on traffic and the specific departure point in the city, the journey typically takes between 30 and 50 minutes.

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to explore the lighthouse grounds and the surrounding coastal walking paths.

When to Visit

The site is open to the public throughout the year. Visiting during the early morning or late afternoon provides softer light for viewing the harbour. Because it is less central than the main city attractions, it generally does not experience the same level of crowding as the CBD, though weekends are busier than weekdays.
