National Theater and Concert Hall
The National Theater and National Concert Hall, or together the National Theater and Concert Hall, are twin performing arts venues at Liberty Square in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan. Completed in 1987, the landmarks stand on the south and north sides of the square with Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to the east.

These twin buildings on Liberty Square host Taiwan's main opera, ballet, orchestral, and traditional performance programming, along with drama and dance from touring companies. The palace-style roofs and red columns are distinctive even if you don't attend a show, and the plaza between the two halls is a common gathering spot in the evening. Travellers usually come either for a scheduled performance or to see the square and its surrounding architecture on foot.
Getting there
From central Taipei, the easiest approach is the MRT to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station, which sits right at the edge of the square — the walk from the station exit to either hall takes only a few minutes. From most downtown neighborhoods the ride itself is around 10–20 minutes depending on your starting point.
Time to allow
Walking the square and viewing the exteriors of both buildings takes about 30–45 minutes. If you're attending a performance, plan for the length of the show plus time to explore beforehand, since the plaza and surrounding halls are worth a slow walk.
When to go
Late afternoon into evening is a good time to see the buildings lit and the square at its liveliest, especially if a performance is letting in or out. The open plaza offers little shade, so midday in summer can be uncomfortably hot for lingering outside.
