Kiek in de Kök

Kiek in de Kök is a medieval cannon tower constructed in 1475 as part of Tallinn's city fortifications. Visitors go here to see the military architecture of the period, specifically the walls which reach a thickness of 4 meters. A notable feature is a cannonball from 1577 that remains embedded in the wall, serving as a physical record of past sieges.

Getting There

The tower is located on the edge of the Old Town. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short walk of approximately 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your starting point within the historic district.

Duration of Visit

Allow roughly 1 to 2 hours to explore the interior of the tower and the surrounding fortifications.

When to Visit

The site is open year-round. To avoid the largest crowds, visit during weekday mornings. Like most major landmarks in Tallinn, it can become crowded during the peak summer tourist season.
