Pikk Hermann is a medieval tower located within Toompea Castle on Toompea Hill. Built in the 14th century, the tower serves as a landmark where the Estonian national flag is raised. Visitors climb 215 steps to reach an observation deck that provides a wide view of Tallinn's city layout and the surrounding landscape.

Getting There

The tower is located on Toompea Hill, which is directly above the Old Town. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short walk uphill. Depending on your starting point in the lower town, the walk typically takes 10 to 15 minutes.

Time Requirement

Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes for a visit. This includes the time needed to ascend and descend the stairs and time spent at the observation deck.

When to Visit

The tower is accessible during the tourist season. Because the ascent involves a narrow staircase, it can feel crowded during peak travel months or during midday hours. Visiting early in the morning may reduce the time spent waiting to climb.
